Blooming (開花, Kaika) is the name for the unique, superhuman abilities which are created as a result of the Someinine, a special protein found only within the blood the Yozakura Family that gives them their enhanced capabilities.
Overview[]
Blooming is seen as the complete awakening of a Yozakura, when the Someinine that courses through his/her blood and strengthens their body and skills to their maximum limits, manifesting as a powerful trump card.
However, while Bloomings only manifest naturally within members of the Yozakura family, the power of their blood can be granted to an outsider by the Head of the Yozakura Family, although it can only do so once.
The abilities which manifest when a Blooming is activated are caused by the Someinine in a Yozakura's blood stimulating all the cells in their body, enhancing their abilities using their physical traits and individual skills as a base.[1]
There are about one hundred possible blooming abilities that can manifest and they've all been named via studying the Yozakura Family ancestry or their family's genetics and someinine.[2]
Appearance[]
When a Blooming is activated, the user's eyes gain cherry blossom-shaped markings within their irises as well as glow a similar pink color as that of cherry blossoms. If a blooming is not fully awakened yet, the user will gain have was eye changed.[3]
Meanwhile, the Hazakura version of Blooming also changes the user's eyes. However, instead of having cherry blossoms, they have six-pointed shape instead, showing how it's still an imperfect copy of the original. Whether the Hazakura Blooming changes the user's eye color, and what color it becomes, is currently unknown.
Abilities[]
The blooming uses the someinine in the body and strengthens it to it's limits.[4] This involves further increasing a person's physical abilities like their strength and speed as well as their senses like their eyesight and reaction speeds.[5] These enhanced abilities can be obtained without fully awakening a blooming.[6]
The superhuman abilities granted by one's Blooming often differ vastly from person-to-person, granting them a power which reflect his/her personality, desires and/or skillset.[7]
The basis of how a Blooming functions is to enhance and upgrade the user's natural abilities and skills into a power beyond anything normal humans could achieve via the Someinine in their blood.
One's ability can also be influenced by other factors in their body, like Nanao's natural immunity to poisons and other drugs being used as a basis for his Blooming.
Training[]
In order to gain a Blooming, one must first have Someinine in their blood, whether its through natural or artificial means.
Another important factor in gaining a Blooming is being in close proximity with those who already possess one, this is due to the Someinine vapors secreted by those who've achieved Blooming due to increased body temperature, breathing and heart rates, when the person attempting to bloom is exposed to these chemical signals, their body resonates with them and stimulates their own Blooming to awaken.[8]
Awakening a blooming can happen in various ways, but the most common method involves an act of desperation, needing to dig up enough strength typically in order to save themselves or someone.[9] Taiyo managed to awaken his blooming after needed to rush to Mutsumi's aid to save her from a bullet fired by Ban.[10] Shinzo's also came from a desire to save his family after needing to save Kengo after he was on deaths door on a mission.[11] Though mustering up the strength to save someone is a common method, intense feelings of emotion can also be a trigger, like with Kyoichiro who awakened his after learning about Momo's betrayal of the family and feeling intense rage. [12]
Over a long period of time, the Blooming can be trained into a stronger, more completed form known as the "True Spring Blooming".[13]
Hazakura Blooming[]
Hazakura users can also develop their own Bloomings due to possessing "Parasomeinine", a synthetic copy of the Someinine within the Yozakura Family's blood.
Like those of the Yozakura, an Hazakura user's Blooming causes them to manifest a superhuman ability based off their personality and desires; however, unlike those of the legendary spy family, the powers granted by the Hazakura drug can be used whenever and activating one's Blooming merely upgrades said ability further.
Other Bloomings[]
It was displayed by Kazu and Nii how they were able to use the power of the blooming that was almost identical to a real blooming, despite not being the child of a Yozakura head.[14] Where this blooming did differ was in how it was able to change into a new form. This form changes their cherry blossom eyes into a hexagon shape with lines coming out from each corner, their hair also becomes black whilst this is activated.[15] Whilst in this state, they are able to use the power of their blooming, but with increased power.[16] Little else is known about the power, but it should be noted that the two people capable of this were born from a fragment of the heart of a Yozakura head.[17]
