Taiyo Asano (朝野 太陽, Asano Taiyō) is the main protagonist of Mission: Yozakura Family. He was originally a normal high schooler before marrying into the Yozakura Family and becoming a spy to protect Mutsumi and learn the truth behind the accident which claimed the lives of his family.
He later officially took the Yozakura name, once becoming a legal adult, now called Taiyo Yozakura (夜桜 太陽, Yozakura Taiyō).[4]
Appearance[]
Taiyo is a fair-skinned young man of average height with messy, medium-length scarlet-red hair that falls in front of his face in short bangs with one whirled strand that sticks out from the rest.
His eyes are scarlet-colored like his hair and he has a noticeable scar over his left eye, that he got from his family's accident.
Taiyo is often seen wearing his navy blue high school uniform, but during his spy missions, he wears the Yozakura Family's Loungewear Suit which resembles a baggy black jumpsuit in appearance.
After the 5-year timeskip, Taiyo now dresses in a black hooded overcoat and loungewear suit.
Personality[]
Originally, Taiyo was an outgoing and cheerful boy until he lost his entire family in a car accident. This incident caused him to undergo a dramatic personality shift, making him afraid of any emotional connections or even interact with anyone in fear he might lose them as well; the only person whom he remained close with being Mutsumi as she made a promise to never leave him.
After marrying into the Yozakura family and going through so much with them, Taiyo slowly but surely begins to regain some of his former personality; becoming a far more open and sociable person.
However, perhaps his most defining personality trait is his compassion, which is noted to be remarkable within the cutthroat world of espionage. Not only will Taiyo stubbornly refuse to kill any of his opponents, regardless of how evil they might be or if they goad him into crossing that line; even when pitted against a foe he truly despises, Taiyo still continues to utilize nonlethal force and will either try to restrain or incapacitate them to the best of his ability.
Taiyo is also quite warm and generous to both friends and family alike, such as when he convinced Nanao to stay in school when the younger boy had all but given up on a life of normalcy, telling him that no matter what family he was born into, he was still a normal person regardless.
Of course, due to the infamy of the Yozakura family, Taiyo also has to deal with the many stresses involved in protecting Mutsumi from danger. As a result of this, he's developed a level of paranoia of any and all would be assassins, causing Taiyo to constantly be vigilant of everything around them to the point of searching for hidden explosives, spy cameras and other dangerous implements whenever he and Mutsumi are on dates.
His close relationship with Mutsumi also causes Taiyo to become intensely jealous and annoyed whenever someone flirts with her, as shown by his antagonism toward Asuka Hatoda, as well as causes him to immediately enter a bloodlusted state of pure rage whenever somebody attempts to harm or threaten her.
History[]
Taiyo grew up with his parents and younger brother. During this period, he would meet and befriend a girl he was neighbors with, Mutsumi Yozakura, whom he quickly form a strong bond with that continued throughout the years and would protect her from bullies who made fun of the white streak in her hair.
However, when Taiyo was 14-years-old, an incident occurred which changed his life forever.
While his family was on their way home from a day out, which had to be cut short after they went out of their way to rescue a drowning child, their car ended up veering off the road and over a cliff.
After the fall, Taiyo was left conscious and alive, but unable to move or do anything as his little brother slowly died in front of him. This resulted in him being left hospitalized for a while and caused Taiyo to develop a fear of getting close to people, afraid something bad might happen and he'd lose them as well.
The only person who managed to stay close with him was Mutsumi, who supported and aided Taiyo in his recovery, causing them to become closer friends as she continued to look after him as he trusted her.
Plot[]
Abilities[]
Prior to marrying into the Yozakura family, Taiyo was an ordinary boy. After moving into the Yozakura mansion, Taiyo undergoes gruelling training under the supervision of his siblings-in-law. Kyoichiro notes that Taiyo has a high improvement rate compared to normal humans. As a result of his training, Taiyo begins to exhibit uncanny abilities such as swift reflexes, a silent gait, superhuman strength and so on. Like Kyoichiro, Taiyo doesn't have any specialities, but is able to assist any Yozakura sibling. Eventually, he acquires supernatural abilities thanks to receving Mutsumi's blood, as well as Tsubomi's blood. After the timeskip, Taiyo becomes a gold-ranked spy, indicating that he is a highly accomplished spy in his own right.
- Enhanced Physical Capabilities: Due to his intensive training and conditioning with the different members of the Yozakura Family, Taiyo possess a level of strength and speed that far surpass what any normal human being could possibly achieve via normal methods.
- Enhanced Poison Immunity: Having undergone the Yozakura's poison tolerance regimen, Taiyo is impervious to many common types of poisons, including otherwise lethal toxins like potassium cyanide.
- Someinine Blood: After being dealt near fatal amounts of damage by Momo Yozakura during a mission, Mutsumi would give some of her blood to Taiyo, imbuing his body with the special protein "Someinine". This would cause the speed at which his cells divided as well as the maximum threshold of their division to increase, granting him similarly enhanced abilities to that of naturally born members of the Yozakura Family.
- Hardening: Taiyo's Blooming, this ability enables him to control the solidity of his body, reinforcing some parts whilst softening others to better absorb the impact of attacks. However, other then simply increasing his defensive capabilities, Taiyo's Hardening can also be used to enhance his offensive power as well. This ability's potency is further bolstered once Taiyo mastered the True Spring Blooming.
- True Spring Blooming - Softening: His body becomes incredibly soft, with attacks that land on him having feel no resistance or recoil from him and instead feel like they've been wrapped with cotton. He's also more flexible and supportive when it comes to his hardening, as well as increasing the power of his hardness.
- Tsubomi's Blood: The Someinine found within the blood of the First Head of the Yozakura Family, Tsubomi Yozakura, is unlike that of any other head as it's "fiendish" and just as capable of harming the user's body as much as it may strengthen it. Whenever Taiyo accesses the power of Tsubomi's blood, glowing Chizakura flowers begin to bloom across his body, sucking away his vitality in exchange for greater power.
- Profuse Blooming of 10,000 Flowers: An ability created from Tsubomi Yozakura's blood, with power able to surpass that of Blooming, this causes Taiyo's body to become raw power itself. However, utilizing this ability comes with the risk of putting draining Taiyo's energy and can have a negative impact his strength, reflexes and stamina as well.[7] Taiyo later manages to lessen the draining effects by mitigating the use of the Profuse Blooming until he needs it, only letting it out in short bursts or when absolutely necessary.[8]
Techniques[]
- Puppet Child (操童子, Ayatsuri dōji): In combination with Kyoichiro's Steel Spider, Kyoichiro controls Taiyo's body to make attacks.
- Yozakura Martial Art Technique: Cascading Kumite: Taiyo gets close to his opponent and attacks. The bigger the size difference, the better the results.
- Stepping on Flowers: A secret way to walk at fast speeds without making a sound. It can be used for infiltration, following someone, or even fighting. Taiyo was able to make a lesser imitation of the technique whilst fighting Kurogao.
- White Flower (Hakka): Utilising his Profuse Blooming, Taiyo hold back it's power until his punch makes contact with the opponent, releasing its strength in a short burst. [8]
- Cherry Blossom Fangs (桜牙, Ōga): Taiyo uses the increased power of the True Spring Blooming to land a devastating punch. [9]
- Turbulent Cherry Blossom: A series of electrical shots whilst swinging Yae horizontally.[10]
- Thunder-Clap (Jinrai): A beam of electricity fired straight, has enough thrust to propel Taiyo upwards.[11]
- Rain Season's End (Tsuyudome): A numbing round of Yae, not made to actually harm the target.[12]
- Curtain (Tenmaku): Yae fires a sheet of electricity meant to engulf the target. [13]
- Spiral Autumn Shower: Taiyo dashes forward and swings his sword in a spiral motion.
- Amaterasu: An ancient technique where Taiyo dashes forward with one strong horizontal swing, creating a hole through the target. The sun shines through the open hole, probably giving it it's namesake.[14]
- The technique was later used by Taiyo with his Profuse Blooming of 10,000 Flowers, dubbed "Amaterasu - Chaotic Blooming". This led to the attack slicing the entire floor of the building.[15]
- There is also a non-lethal version of this attack called "Amaterasu - Empty Sword" (Koto)[16]
- Ascending Waterfall: Taiyo swings Yae upwards to create a long vertical strike of electricity.[17]
- Path of Lightning: Taiyo hardens his body and weapon like a bullet, and is launched by Kyoichiro's steel Spider to cut a hole through the target with a forward thrust.[18]
- Daybreak: A horizontal slash sending out a large blade of electricity.[19]
- Lightning Strike (Kanrai): A downwards stab that brings down a lightning bolt with it from above, the bolt is generated by using the charged ions in the area.[20] The move can also be performed without the downwards stab, and will just create the bolt of lightning.[21]
- Empty Dew (Karatsuyu): A non-lethal attack, which is an airborne slash made to knock the opponent unconscious.[22][23]
- Downpour (Oame): A non-lethal attack, A series of multiple slashes made to knock the opponent unconscious.[24][25]
- Empty Chorus of Ciccadas (Utsusemi Shigure): A non-lethal attack which uses a series of slashes as Taiyo constantly circles the target, made to knock the opponent unconscious.[26][27]
- Sheet Lightning (Makuden): The static electricity created collects small materials around him to make a temporary shield.[28]
- Dark Thunder (Raimei): Using the revolver set with strings, it spins creating powerful traction, bringing Taiyo towards his target, before releasing to create a downwards piercing strike using the whole body.[29]
- Stabbing Rain (Shikure): Taiyo quickly moves his arms in order to slash multiple of the opponent's limbs.[30]
- Thunder-Clap: A charged beam of electricity fired straight.[31]
- Dragon Meteor Shower (Ryuseiu): A series of multiple lightning shots fired that are spread out and swarm the opponent.[32]
- Large Flower (Tairin): Taiyo quick-fires Yae sending out an shot of electricity with eight points coming out from the center like flower petals.[33]
Equipment[]
- Yae: An electric revolver used for self-defense, Yae is capable of shooting out bolts with a maximum voltage of 8 million.
- Second Yae - Rain: Yae transforms into a katana designed to conduct electricity, using the revolver as a grip. The sword has no guard and has a fuller extending, making it almost a full-length sword.
- First Yae - Clear Skies: Yae transforms into a more powerful gun with an extended barrel and additional handle on the side.
- Yozakura Loungewear: A suit worn by Taiyo for infiltration purposes. It is blade resistant, bulletproof, super lightweight, and machine-washable.[34] The clothing was designed by Shinzo and Futaba after large amounts of testing with weaponry.[35]
- Yozakura T-shirt: A 50kg t-shirt which is woven with iron wire and looks like a regular shirt. There is also a 100kg variant.
- Rope Man Belt: A belt designed by Shinzo, it stores a special rope that shoots out from the buckle and can be used as a grappling hook. It can handle loads of up to 500 kilograms and is 50 meters in length.[36]
- Super Young Gray Hair: A fake hair strand created by Kengo. It is made out of a material known as "Shape Memory Resin", as such, it'll return to its original shape even if deformed. It can be bent to satisfy the user's need and can easily fit through tight spaces.[36]
